In Amsterdam, the EU-funded Civitas Citylab project, including PostNL as industrial partner, investigated several possible solutions. Ultimately, the chosen solution was the use of several city centre micro-hubs in combination with innovative freight bikes. The implementation has been considered such a success, in terms of environmental and financial benefits, that PostNL is upscaling the solution in Amsterdam and transferring it to other Dutch cities. ![]() Currently there are seven micro-hubs operational in Amsterdam located in existing PostNL locations and at locations shared with other logistics service providers. Between 50 and 60 freight bikes operate over the last mile leading to a reduction of around 2000 van stops and a significant reduction in negative effects. A roll-out of this size with micro-hubs and bikes has never been achieved so far. During the presentations you will hear the details of the concept, future plans and the experiences in the Citylab project. A site visit in the afternoon offers the chance to see a micro-depot and freight bikes in operation. ![]() |
